The Community: Doctoral Students



Emily Dufton

Emily Dufton is a first-year PhD student in American Studies. Her work focuses on social movements and cultural theory with an emphasis on the role of philosophy and protest in the 21st century. She received her BA in Individualized Study from NYU's Gallatin School in 2004, graduating a year ahead of schedule magna cum laude. She has spent the past four years working in journalism, vegan baking, serving as the assistant executive director of a chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and most recently as a sustainable agriculture volunteer for the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. In addition to pursuing her degree, she is also a fiction writer and visual artist.
