Dear Members of the Class of 1988,
It's that time of year in Washington, DC: the warm weather is here, the tourists are back, and GW Alumni Weekend is just four months away!
GET INVOLVED!
If you would like to contact classmates, if you have any ideas for additional Reunion events, or if you would like to get involved in any other way, please contact Andrew Kaufteil, Senior Director of Alumni Relations, at kaufteil@gwu.edu or at (202) 994-6596.
NEW WEEKEND EVENTS
Some great events have been added to the schedule:
- Screening of critically-acclaimed film, "The Matador," on Saturday afternoon, followed by a Q&A with Nina Seavey, producer/co-director of the film and founder/director of The Documentary Center at GW. The film is an epic tale of David Fandila's three-year quest to become the world's top-ranked bull fighter. His story recounts the love of a son for his family, of audiences for their heroes, of people for their cultural traditions, and of a bullfighter for the majestic beast he must kill to create his art.
- An election-themed brunch, featuring GW alumnus Chuck Todd, NBC News' political director, and NBC News' on-air political analyst for "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams," "Today," "Meet the Press with Tim Russert," and MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews."
- Other events: The Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards, the Alumni Weekend Kickoff Party, the 150th anniversary of Greek life on campus celebration, tours of campus and DC, a family barbeque and carnival, Classes without Quizzes, "Back to Thurston" tours, a performance at Lisner Auditorium, The Kalb Report, Politics and Pita, an election-themed brunch, an Orioles game, your class party and more!
Check out the full tentative schedule.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Enya Flack
While at GW, Enya Flack, BA '88, majored in radio-television communications, and minored in journalism. Currently, she lives in Los Angeles, Calif., and works as a television producer, actress, and entertainment reporter. She is co-hosting a new talk show pilot called "Ladies Night Out" and producing a travel program that she hopes to sell to TV One.
"I knew that I wanted to work in television from a pretty early age, but at GW I learned about all of the avenues that were available to me, particularly 'behind the scenes,'" says Enya. "The thing about the entertainment business is that there are no clear-cut paths to reaching one's goals. And no one can tell you 'if you do it this way, you're guaranteed to succeed.' So you basically have to blaze your own trail in just about every case. This can be challenging, frustrating and exciting all at the same time. You definitely have to have a passion for it!"
Enya's fondest recollections of her time at GW include working with Dr. Joan Thiel, her faculty advisor. Though Dr. Thiel had a reputation as a very tough professor, Enya explains that she came to understand this was simply to get the most out of her students. "I credit her with really preparing me for what was ahead in the television industry. By my senior year, not only had I become one of her teaching assistants, but I had come to truly appreciate her 'toughness' and to regard her as my inspiration and mentor."
Just last year, Enya married another GW graduate, John Adsit, JD '87. "As it turned out he was in the law school at the same time I was in Columbian College, but we never met until about 1 1/2 years ago. On our first date, about 20 minutes into the conversation, we found out that we both had gone to GW and that we knew and had known a lot of the same people...small world! We have an adorable little girl: a 10-month-old Yorkshire terrier named Bella."
When asked if she is attending her 20th reunion, Enya exclaims, "Absolutely! I'm looking forward to touring the Media Studies building. I've heard that things have changed A LOT since the department left the old church facility! And, of course, it will be great to see some of my old classmates."
Enya also has a special request for Dr. Thiel: "Dr. Thiel, I know that you've retired, but if you happen to read this, I'd love to catch up with you at the reunion as well. So please show up!"

GW's oldest giving society has been re-launched with new benefits and energy! For example, members are invited to join President Knapp for an invitation-only reception during Alumni Weekend 2008. The Society recognizes individuals who contribute between $1,000 and $24,999 ($250+ for recent graduates) annually.
