Columbian Women Scholarships

The Columbian Women Scholarship Award program enables the Columbian Women to present female GW students with scholarships based upon high levels of academic excellence, commitment to a chosen profession, and financial need. Award monies are to be applied toward GW tuition.

Applicants must:

  • be enrolled for the current academic year and be pursuing a degree in any field of study at GW
  • have completed a minimum of 15 credit hours for undergraduate work or 9 credit hours for graduate work
  • have a minimum grade point average of 3.5

Applications must be received by February 27, 2004 or by the deadline established by the specific GW school or college financial advisor. Scholarship awards are distributed each fall and spring. Recipients are honored at an annual scholarship brunch hosted by The Columbian Women.

If you are interested in applying, please contact your school (financial advisor).

The following rate was received from one of the recipients of a scholarship in 1997:

To the Ladies of Columbian Women,

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for extending your generosity and including me as one of your scholarship recipients. It is because of your kindness that I am able to continue my studies at GW, at least for one more semester."

“My parents, educators themselves, have always held education in the highest regard. With their constant support and encouragement, I found myself pursuing two graduate degrees at GW. But this summer, my mother suffered a sudden, massive stroke which has left her paralyzed and blind. As she is unable to continue her teaching career, her care and the family finances have been left solely in the hands of my father. I was very touched by the story of the origin of the Columbian Women, and I saw myself as that woman who, so many years ago, was able to graduate from college because of the generosity of her friends."

“The Columbian Women is an organization that has not lost sight of its past and has found a way to continue its legacy now and in the future. It is an organization with which I am proud to be associated.

Thank you again.

“Fondly,"
