ALUMNI TRAVEL PROGRAM INTRODUCES 2009 EXCURSIONS

The George Washington Alumni Association is pleased to announce its expanded lineup of alumni travel opportunities for 2009! Explore the world with us — from the wonders of the Galapagos Islands, to the wilderness of Antarctica, to the mythical islands of Greece, to the cultural heart of Japan, and more. The 2009 Alumni Travel Program selection offers something for everyone, so please join us in paving your own passage to discovery.

In 2009, select programs will feature, for the first time, GW faculty lecturers.

Diana Lipscomb, a biology professor and former interim dean of the Columbian College, is joining the trip to the Galapagos Islands and Santa Cruz. As a professor who has taught evolution for 26 years, she said the Galapagos — where Charles Darwin formulated ideas about adaptation and evolution — is somewhere she has always wanted to go.

“You see all these plants and animals thrown together there that you just don’t find together in other places,” Lipscomb said. “The wildlife is still pretty much what was there when Darwin was there. It’s one of the most unspoiled places you can go and really important to the history of science.”

Lipscomb said she also is going to present an opportunity for alumni and students to interact while on the trip. Since she will be missing the first week of classes of the semester, she is setting up a blog and webcam of the trip for her students back in Foggy Bottom.

No matter what program you plan to travel on, the GW Alumni Association’s seasoned travel partners offer expert guides, unique excursions, cultural immersion, educational lectures, superior service, and personal attention.
