GWAA Prize
The GW Alumni Association awards the annual GWAA prize to one graduating student in each of the university's schools who has shown exceptional commitment to the university and its community. This year, the recipients were:

Fulbright Scholarships
The prestigious Fulbright Program has granted 11 awards to GW graduates to conduct research and teach outside of the United States. The Fulbright Program is widely considered the flagship international education program in the United States. This year’s undergraduate and graduate student grantees are:
- Jenna Kloeppel, CCAS BA ’08, of Albuquerque, N.M., will provide English instruction in a school for the disabled and visually impaired in Prague, Czech Republic.
- Jane Lee, ESIA BA ’08, of Syosset, N.Y., will help primary and secondary students in South Korea learn English.
- James Morlath, ESIA BA ’08, of Sandy Hook, Conn., will partner with the International Center for Sustainable Human Development to study the impact of economic cooperatives on poverty in Costa Rica.
- Nasreen Mustafa, GWSB BAccy ’08, of Arlington, Va., will study how Islamic finance and banking initiatives work to promote economic development among marginalized Muslims in the Philippines.
- Julia Nebrija, ESIA BA ’08, was born in Louisiana, grew up in Saudi Arabia, and attended high school in California. She plans to work with organizations in Manila to study the impact of different slum upgrading approaches in the Philippines.
- Robert O’Brien, ESIA BA ’08, of Merrimack, N.H., will examine current Chinese internal migration patterns and their impact on cities as well as rural areas.
- Anna Phillips, ESIA BA ’08, of San Diego, Calif., will research the effectiveness of affirmative action policies in promoting female leadership in the Republic of Uganda.
- Liam Tumas, ESIA BA ’08, of Cinnaminson, N.J., will be an English teaching assistant in Germany, where he hopes to cultivate an interest in civics and the English language in his students.
- Justin Zorn, ESIA BA ’07, of Longwood, Fla., will study Singapore's Risk Assessment and Horizon Scanning Program with scholars from the Centre of Excellence in National Security.
- John Ratcliffe, ESIA MA ’07, of Bethesda, Md., will study sociolinguistics in Iceland.
- Vanessa Salcedo, MD/MPH ’08, of Miami, Fla., will travel to Spain to study the parental perception of childhood obesity.

Presidential Administrative Fellows
In May, GW named eight graduating seniors Presidential Administrative Fellows. Over the next two years, these students will pursue master’s degrees at GW and secure a job placement with an administrative department at the university. The Presidential Administrative Fellowship also provides full tuition and a housing stipend. This year’s Presidential Administrative Fellows are:
