Daniele Calabrese, ESIA MA ’00, encountered several challenges finding the right job after graduation before settling at his job at the World Bank. When he returned to Washington from his native country of Italy, he recalled that he was “completely on his own. It was difficult to find someone to work with.” His challenges led him to get involved with the Career Advisor Network.
GW’s Career Advisor Network is an online directory of GW alumni who have volunteered to share their career-related experience, advice, and insight with students and other alumni. These volunteers come from a variety of diverse backgrounds and career paths.
Kenny Cushing, CCAS MA ’06, who is also a Career Advisor in the Network, said he has always enjoyed mentoring others, especially when it comes to career advice. Kenny, who now works at the consulting firm McKinsey & Company, sees volunteering through the Career Advisor Network as a “way to give back, and leverage my experience, as well as the experience of those I work with.” Like Calabrese, Cushing said he hopes to share his knowledge and advice with GW students and alumni, and keep them from feeling overwhelmed and alone.
