Vanessa Northington Gamble, a physician and distinguished medical humanities scholar, has been named a University Professor. Gamble is the first woman to hold the prestigious, endowed faculty position, which has existed since 1979 to bring major national and international scholars to the University. In addition to Gamble, who has focused much of her career on race, ethnicity, and justice in medicine, there are eight other University Professors.
