Lindsay Marsh, BA ’98, MD ’02, an alumna with a diverse personal and professional portfolio, focuses on helping others through a multifaceted approach. An anesthesiologist, ordained minister, and author, Marsh is also CEO and creative director of a unique company, Worth the Wait Revolution Inc. The company seeks to empower young women and men aged 13 through the early 30s by helping them to create healthy self-images through educational efforts.
Marsh’s interest in helping young people flourished when she was still an undergraduate at GW. During her sophomore year, Marsh, along with a close friend, founded Word Up, a student organization that promotes positive values among peers. In honor of her work, GW awarded her the “Excellence in Student Life Award,” a campus honor and scholarship acknowledging outstanding student leadership and service within the campus community.
Through her company, Marsh has created a clothing line, Worth the Wait, which strives to show teens and young adults that abstinence can be “cool.” Marsh also conducts workshops and seminars to teach young people about protection against STDs and teen pregnancy. “I like to make it interactive and exciting,” Marsh says.
This year, she plans to undertake an international tour comprising a series of runway fashion shows, book signings, abstinence outreach efforts, and other events. The goal is to help young women and men to take control of their own lives. In addition, a non-profit arm of Marsh’s company regularly sponsors and conducts ministry workshops and self-empowerment seminars from a present-day, real-life perspective to which teens and young adults can relate.
Marsh says she has been involved in community service for as long as she can remember. “My parents always had my siblings and I involved in helping people.” Today, she continues that mission through her outreach to young people. “My passions evolve as time goes on.”
