Between 1998 and last year, house prices in many markets around the United States rose at an unprecedented pace. Over the past year, however, prices in many markets softened, and the median national house price reported by the National Association of Realtors actually fell a bit recently. This talk is about why house prices rose so rapidly, and about the determinants of whether and by how much they are likely to fall in the next few years.

The neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a group of 13 major poverty-promoting and disfiguring parasitic and bacterial infections, such as hookworm, schistosomiasis, river blindness, elephantiasis, Buruli ulcer, leprosy, and trachoma. New tools and technology, including integrated control of the diseases and development of anti-poverty vaccines, show promise for their elimination.

As global migration patterns intensify and diversify, and as more immigrants move to cities, the established models of urban immigrant settlement and assimilation can no longer adequately explain new social, economic and politics spaces being created in a wide range of urban destinations.
