The George Washington University

Who we are

Africana Studies is the only program at The George Washington University devoted to an interdisciplinary understanding of the experiences of African-descended populations in the United States, Africa, and other areas of the Diaspora. The program aims to provide students with an interdisciplinary and integrated course of study of Africa and the African culture globally, but particularly in the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Africana Studies offers a venue for students and faculty with related scholarly and teaching interests. The program's interdisciplinary nature draws on methodology, skills and expertise within different disciplines and fields, allowing students to think critically in various settings.
