Texas Secretary of State
According to unofficial returns more than 2.4 million people did early voting.
Gov. Bush won handily in his home state, gaining a plurality of 1,365,893 votes (21.32 percentage points) and carrying 230 of 254 counties.
Last day for Secretary of State to certify independent and write-in candidates for federal, statewide and district offices: Sept. 13, 2000.
Last day to register: Oct. 10, 2000.
First day to apply for ballot by mail: Sept. 8, 2000.
Early voting in person: Oct. 23-Nov. 3, 2000.
