Univision Presidential Candidate Debates
What: Univision is proposing the first-ever presidential candidate debates that will focus exclusively on issues of particular interest to the Hispanic community.
Why: The time is now for candidates to speak directly to the U.S. Hispanic community – Hispanics are the fastest growing segment of the U.S. electorate and, as such, will play a pivotal role in this presidential election.
Dates: Sunday, September 9, 2007 (Democratic candidate
Sunday, September 16, 2007 (Republican candidate debate)
Location: BankUnited Center at the University of Miami, in Miami, Florida
Broadcasts: National, primetime broadcasts on the Univision Network, RadioCadena and Univision Online
Moderators: Univision’s award-winning and highly respected network news anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas
Topics: Each 90-minute debate will focus on topics of particular importance to the U.S. Hispanic community, including education, economy, Latin American foreign policy, immigration and health care.
Format: Univision has created a format where candidates can talk to – not just about – Hispanics and the issues that matter most to them, hosted by the network that they rely on and the news organization they trust the most.
· All questions will be asked in Spanish for the benefit of our viewers and listeners. All candidates will simultaneously hear the question translated into English.
· The candidates will be required to give all answers in
English, which will then be simultaneously translated into Spanish for
the benefit of our viewers and listeners.
