|June 13, 2006--Gov. Tom Vilsack (D-IA) delivered the luncheon speech
on the second day of the conference. Vilsack emphasized community
stating, "We each have a collective responsibility to one another."
Vilsack, who is in his final year as governor, is mentioned as a possible 2008 presidential candidate. He is chairman of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council. Vilsack's Heartland PAC, which had a table in the exhibit hall, has been focusing on governors' races as well as campaigns for secretary of state. Vilsack recently appeared at YearlyKos and was scheduled to visit New Hampshire on June 14-15. Iowa Republicans have poked fun at Vilsack's travels.
