Political Action

30-second TV ad run in IA and NH starting Jan. 17, 2007.
[Ominous Music] Male Announcer: John McCain has done more than just embrace George Bush's failed policy in Iraq.

It's actually his idea to escalate the war there.

It's John McCain's idea to send tens of thousands more soldiers to Iraq and to keep them there with no timeline for bringing them home.

The McCain plan to escalate.  Going from bad to worse.

Notes:  This ad quite possibly helped McCain among core Republicans.  On Jan. 18, 2007 the exploratory committee e-mailed out a fundraising appeal:
Dear Supporter of Senator McCain,

Yesterday, began attacking Senator John McCain for his steadfast support of achieving victory in Iraq. is an ultra liberal group that is known for running negative attack ads against Republicans. Their long list of negative and mostly false ads is well documented. In fact, they even went as far as to compare President Bush to Adolf Hitler and opposed military action after September 11.

Now they have turned their attacks on Senator McCain by airing television ads in Iowa and New Hampshire. They have also sent out an email to millions of Americans in an attempt to raise money for more attack ads.

Make no mistake, these negative attack ads are about the 2008 Presidential campaign - not what is happening today in Iraq. That is why is only airing their ads in the states that will vote first and second in the Presidential primary election - Iowa and New Hampshire - in an attempt to politically harm Senator McCain if he decides to run for President.

P.S. Following is a quote from an editorial Senator McCain contributed to The Washington Post outlining his reasons for wanting to send more troops to stabilize Iraq.

"By surging troops and bringing security to Baghdad and other areas, we will give the Iraqis the best possible chance to succeed. Our national security, and that of our friends and allies, compels us to make our best effort to prevail, and to do it immediately." Senator John McCain
