|South Carolina Democrats Revel in the Presence of All Nine Candidates|
|All nine Democratic presidential candidates were in Columbia, South Carolina for the first Democratic Presidential Debate on the evening of May 3, 2003. South Carolina Democrats organized a busy Dem Fest weekend that started with the party's Jefferson Jackson fundraising dinner and Congressman Jim Clyburn's Fish Fry on the evening of May 2. On May 3 there was a Meet and Greet session and the party's annual Convention. The candidates also fit in a number of retail events during the weekend. Capping off the weekend the candidates participated in a 90-minute Democratic Presidential Debate at Drayton Hall on the University of South Carolina campus.|
"It's just tremendous to get this attention. And we can really get a first-hand look at the candidates and are able to size them up. We've got so many good candidates it's hard to make a choice."

longer flies atop the Capitol dome, but it still waves at the Confederate
