Community Advocacy

The Graduate Certificate in Community Advocacy for non-profit organizations is designed to meet the graduate educational needs of students preparing to become leaders of community activism or to become change agents for public policy. It responds to a specific need stated by leaders of several non-profit organizations - to bring together existing courses into a concentration that focuses exclusively on challenging and building community awareness, a need made more acute with the re-emergence of grassroots mobilization as a key component to community advocacy.

Climate Change Management and Policy

The six-course, 18 credit graduate certificate in Climate Change Management and Policy offers instruction in technological approaches to solving key planning issues. It focuses on the technical side of sustainability; the building requirements, design demands, and energy technologies needed to create a sustainable urban area.

The Certificate is designed to provide returning students or mid-career professionals with valuable technological skills and entry-level students with an area of specialization in technology for sustainability.

Campaign Strategy

The two-year election cycle and the rise of the "permanent campaign” leave little time for practitioners to learn more about the craft of professional politicking and campaigning. Designed to accommodate those on hiatus from the campaign trail, the Graduate Certificate in Campaign Strategy provides students with the tools and techniques to manage a successful campaign in only one year.

The Police Science program was launched in 2004 as part of GW’s College of Professional Studies. Law enforcement experts teach our courses. Classes are held at GW’s Graduate Education Center, one block from the Virginia Square metro station (Orange/Silver lines) in Arlington, Virginia.
