PROGRAM
Travel to Paris to explore "modernism," the aesthetic movement that changed the course of art and thought in Europe. Contrast current contemporary developments in dance, music, art, poetry, and repertory theater against the framework of modernist traditions. Use the museums and sites of Paris as resources to discover strategies for analyzing visual images and performance. Understand the ways in which meaning is both historically situated and conveyed through the combination of subject matter and form. Use digital photography to explore and document the contemporary artistic scene, and design a photographic and literary journal of your experience. For undergraduate students, open to graduate students with an additional assignment.
No language requirement. This course satisfies: WID requirement, Elliot School Cultural Studies Course, and Columbian School Humanities GCR. Limited space available. Apply early. Please click here to view the syllabus.
