Student Involvement

GW Students Working in a Garden

GW is more than a center of academic excellence – it is a university actively engaging Washington and the world. We attract students who have been involved in a range of extracurricular activities through their high school years, and who wish to continue to engage in important and enriching “real world” experiences during their time at GW.

The GW Center for Student Engagement, Multicultural Student Services Center, Hallmark Programs, Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, and many academic departments facilitate a range of activities sponsored by student-run groups.

Every day there are dozens of on-campus events for students, such as concerts, athletics events, speakers, debates, and social activities. They include comedy nights – which have included performances by Jimmy Fallon, Billy Crystal, Jerry Seinfeld, and Robin Williams – and well-known musical acts like Girl Talk, Black Eyed Peas, John Mayer, Maroon 5, Sheryl Crow and Train.

Some of the most popular annual events includes:

  • Welcome Week
  • Fall Fest
  • Latino Heritage Celebration
  • Colonials Weekend
  • Spirit Week
  • Colonials Invasion
  • Midnight Breakfast
  • Battle of the A Cappella Groups
  • Alternative Break Programs
  • Bhangra Blowout
  • Raas Chaos
  • Martin Luther King Jr., Day of Service
  • Excellence in Student Life Awards
  • Arts Fest/Chalk-in
  • Hawaii Club Luau
  • Grad Week
