Chemical Fume Hood Information
Chemical fume hoods capture, contain, and expel emissions generated by hazardous chemicals. In general, it is a good idea to conduct all laboratory experiments in a fume hood. In working with hazardous chemicals, the release of emissions cannot always be controlled; therefore, the fume hood offers an extra measure of protection. Before use, check to see that your hood has a certification sticker. This will tell you the date of the most recent hood evaluation. If your hood has not been certified, call the Office of Risk Health and Safety at 202-994-4347.
If the fume hood in your lab does not appear to be in good working condition, contact Emergency and Minor Maintenance at 202-994-6706.
