Americans with Disabilities Act

Through exercises and discussion, participants explore the law and GW's policy on disability discrimination and accommodation in the workplace.  Participants learn to identify individuals who qualify as disabled under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Additionally, current case law is examined and reasonable accommodations are explored.

Managing a Diverse Workforce

Through exercises and discussion, participants explore their beliefs, stereotypes and cultural norms to learn how to prevent them from interfering with work productivity. Participants learn that stereotypes are a natural method to order thought and are only negative when used in a manner which injures others. While this program does not link diversity to business objectives, participants are encouraged to use the information gained about themselves to positively effect the work place.  Participants are encouraged to interpret verbal and nonverbal communication and identify how culture affects the communication processes. Participants may also identify past misunderstandings and/or prevent future misunderstandings that stemmed from a lack of cultural knowledge.

Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action

Through discussion, participants explore the law and GW's policy on discrimination in the work place. Participants are taught specifics about the various federal and local laws that protect against discrimination in the work place and which have become known as Equal Employment Opportunity laws. Special emphasis may be placed on discrimination on the basis of race, disability, sexual harassment, or as requested.

Sexual Harassment Myths & Facts(Non-Managers)

Through case studies and discussion, staff members explore the law and GW's policy on sexual harassment in the workplace. Participants learn to identify various behaviors that may constitute sexual harassment, are updated on recent case law about appropriate responses, and are familiarized with GW offices that respond to complaints about sexual harassment.

Sexual Harassment Recognition & Prevention (Managers)

Through case studies and discussion, supervisory staff explore the law and GW's policy on sexual harassment in the workplace. In addition to the information conveyed at the staff sexual harassment  seminar, supervisory staff focus on the supervisor's responsiblity in monitoring and responding to  complaints of sexual harassment. Supervisors are also updated on recent case law that focuses on organizational and personal liability.
