Lactation Rooms for New Mothers

At The George Washington University, we are pleased to announce the following “motherhood rooms”, which provide new mothers a private, secure space to express their breast milk.

Dedicated space available to all GW community members 7 days a week from 7am to midnight. Please contact the Faculty & Staff Service Center at  202-994-8500 for scheduling assistance.

Dedicated space available to all GW community members 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday. Please contact the Faculty & Staff Service Center at  202-994-8500 for scheduling assistance.

Located at 2175 K Street, Suite 500. Check out a key to the room at the front desk. The room is also used for La Leche League meetings and other Breastfeeding Friendly University Project programs.

Available to faculty, staff and students of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Public Health and Health Services. You must have access to Himmelfarb Library to use.

Breastfeeding Resources

GW New Parent Support: Whether you are preparing for the birth of your child or have already welcomed your new baby home, GW is committed to providing programs and resources that can support you at every stage.

GW's Breastfeeding Friendly University Project: Learn about GW's university-wide, collaborative effort to better support breastfeeding families in our community and in our hospital.

La Leche League:The mission of La Leche is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

LifeCare: A GW-paid benefit, LifeCare offers a "Mothers at Work" program that includes a huge library of resources, discounts on Medela breast pumps, and free prenatal and child safety kits available through the mail.

Employees Guide to Breastfeeding and Working: Developed by the Department of Health & Human Services, this six page booklet provides you with the basics you need to know for successfully continuing to breastfeed after returning to work.

The Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington: The Center is located just off the Foggy Bottom campus at 2141 K Street, NW.  The staff at the Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington is committed to optimizing the breastfeeding experience from the beginning. Supportive classes emphasize healthy and normal breastfeeding variations, with respect and understanding of the unique family.
