The #HistoryLivesHere Residence Hall Naming Contest Official Rules and Regulations

NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.

VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

1.    Description.  The GW Residence Hall Naming Contest (the “Contest”) is an opportunity for members of the GW community to leave their mark on the university by submitting and voting on ideas for the name of the new residence hall, located at 2121 H Street NW (“Residence Hall”).  There are two ways to participate in the Contest.  First, entrants can compete by submitting an unlimited number of potential Residence Hall names for the opportunity to have their name selected and to win prizes.  A panel of GW faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents will review the submitted names and choose up to five finalists that best represent GW, its namesake George Washington, and the Foggy Bottom neighborhood.  Then, any member of the GW community will have the opportunity to vote from among the finalists to choose the name for the Residence Hall and to win further prizes.  The Contest will begin on February 8, 2014 and conclude on March 24, 2014.  GW reserves the right to modify or change the name of the Residence Hall at any time in accordance with applicable university policies and procedures.

2.    Eligibility.  The Contest is open to any person who is eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of participation, including GW faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the university.  The Contest is void where prohibited or otherwise restricted by law, rule, or regulation. All applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules.

3.    How to Enter and Submit.  To enter, entrants must submit suggested Residence Hall names by using the designated online form available at go.gwu.edu/HistoryLivesHere (“Submissions”).  Entrants must provide all required information, including their name, GW affiliation, and email address.  By participating, entrants also agree to comply with and be bound by applicable rules and terms of use of Wishpond Technologies, the social media campaign tool used to operate the Contest, available at http://corp.wishpond.com/.

Entrants are required to provide a justification for how the Submission relates to GW; its namesake, George Washington; and the Foggy Bottom neighborhood.  If a suggested name appears in more than one Submission, only the first Submission to provide that name will be entered into the Contest. Previously submitted names will appear on the Contest Submission website.  All applicable GW privacy policies apply.

The Submission period will begin February 8, 2014, at 12:00 AM EST and end February 24, 2014, at 11:59 PM EST (“Submission Period”).  Only Submissions posted during the Submission Period will be considered for the Contest.

4.    Selection of up to Five Finalists.  A panel of GW faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents will review the Submissions and choose up to five finalists based on the names that best represent GW; its namesake, George Washington; and the Foggy Bottom neighborhood.  The selection of the finalists will be at the discretion of the panel participants.

5.    Voting for the Finalist.  Once the finalists are selected, members of the GW community will have the opportunity to cast one vote to choose the finalist by using a second designated online form go.gwu.edu/HistoryLivesHere.  The voting period will be open from March 16, 2014 at 12:00 AM EST until March 23, 2014 at 11:59 PM EST.  To vote, participants must provide all required information, including their name, GW affiliation, and email address.  Any member of the GW community, including GW faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the university who provides all required information is eligible to vote for the finalist.  In the event of a tie, GW reserves the right to make a final determination.  By voting, participants also agree to comply with and be bound by applicable rules and terms of use of Wishpond Technologies, the social media campaign tool used to operate the Contest, available at http://corp.wishpond.com/.

6.    Prizes.  There will be one (1) grand-prize winner and four (4) other winners from the entrants who entered Submissions.  The grand prize winner will receive a technology prize (e.g., laptop) with a value of up to $1,300. The other four winners will receive a GW Bookstore gift certificate with a value of $100.

Three (3) members of the GW community who vote to select the finalist will be chosen at random to receive a GW Bookstore gift certificate with a value of $50.  Voters will be disqualified from this drawing if they vote more than once.

Additionally, if a potential winner is found to be ineligible or if he/she does not comply with these Official Rules, such potential winner will be disqualified and, at GW’s discretion, an applicable runner-up will be notified.  All entrants agree to comply fully with each provision in these Official Rules.
