Records Management vs. Documentation Strategy

In 1987, the National Historical Publications and Records Commission awarded a grant to The George Washington University for the development of a University Archives and Records Management Program. Begun in January, 1988, the grant continued until June, 1990. The principal grant activities included designing and implementing an archives/records management program for the University; conducting records surveys for the development of individual office and university-wide retention and disposition schedules; analyzing academic and administrative unit record retention needs; and developing a comprehensive organizational plan as the basis for an on-going archival and records management program. The effort to serve the needs of the University community, the gathering, organizing and making available of historical records through the records management program continues, under a different name, which is referred to as a Documentation Strategy.
