Ost und West [East and West] (1901-1923) was Germany's first richly illustrated Jewish journal. Zionist artist E.M. Lilien was chosen to design its cover.

Ost und West

Until Martin Buber finally began the publication of his journal Der Jude in 1916, Ost und West was the principal journal of the Jewish cultural renaissance, containing an assortment of pictorials, short stories, and poems. As the title implies, the deepening of this regional encounter between Eastern and Western co-religionists was the primary goal of its editors.
