Zionist Iconography

Passah (Passover) and Der Jüdische Mai (The Jewish May) introduced an optimistic message to the typical portrait of the sorrowful, wandering Jew.  Passah (seen here) was dedicated to life in the Diaspora, as symbolized by the pyramids, which recall the original exile from Egypt.  Its hopeful tone of redemption is indicated by the rising sun inscribed with “Zion,” suggesting a brighter future.
