Zionist Iconography

One of the many examples of Lilien’s use of Theodor Herzl’s likeness for his illustrations.  Herzl, the father of modern Zionism, is portrayed as the modern-day Moses delivering his people to the Promised Land.  Lilien played a vital role in creating the mythical stature of Herzl, who proved to be the most important Jewish icon of the 20th century.
