Closed Study Carrels
Closed Study CarrelsClosed Study Carrels are spaces within Gelman Library that provide a private environment for conducting independent research and data collection that requires use of library materials. These rooms are available for use by GW Doctoral Candidates writing their dissertations. Gelman Library has a limited number of study carrels available for student use. To apply for use of closed study carrel, print out and complete the Application for Closed Study Carrel in Gelman Library form. You will need to have the form signed by a faculty advisor or department chair. Return the completed form to Barbra Tschida, Circulation and Reserves Group Leader, at the Circulation Desk on 1st floor in Gelman Library. There is a $25 per semester fee for closed study room use. Once you are approved for use of a study carrel, there is a limit on the number of months you may use the room. See Priorities in Assignment of Closed Study Carrels for additional information on time limits and availability. Closed study carrels are extremely popular and often all available carrels are taken. As an alternative, consider reserving a lockmobile. Lockmobiles are wheeled, lockable carts that offer convenient, safe storage for books, papers, and other research materials when you're not in the Library. If you have questions on closed study rooms, contact Barbra Tschida, Circulation and Reserves Group Leader, (202) 994-1336, btschida@gwu.edu.
