Reading a Journal Record
Although you can't find an individual article in the catalog, you can find a journal and then see if we have it for the year in which your article was published. Here's an example. Click on the circled areas for explanations.

Find a Journal on the Shelf
Step 1

All journals are located on the 3rd floor of Gelman, shelved alphabetically. Make sure you notice if the journal is in print or in microfilm or microfiche.

Step 2
Current print journals are shelved individually on the shelves closer to the study rooms. Older print issues are bound and are on the shelves to the right of the microfilm readers. Journals in microfilm or microfiches are organized by title and year in the file cabinets.

Step 3
You can make copies of both print and microfilm/microfiche articles, but you can't check out journals.

Can't find the year you want?

Journals, magazines, and newspapers may have more than one record in the catalog. Make sure you look at all available records. Sometimes, the title of a periodical changes through the years; look in the record to see if there are new or old titles.
