GPO Access from Gelman

Depository libraries automatically receive publications from the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO). As the depository program moves to a more electronic environment, GPO is providing access to depository material through its web site, GPO Access. GPO Access currently houses over 2,200 databases.

A few of the more heavily used files available through GPO Access are:

  • Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (formerly Monthly Catalog) provides bibliographic records for government publications, including information about which libraries received a title and hotlinks to electronic documents.
  • The Federal Register is the official publication for Presidential Documents and Executive Orders, as well as Notices, Rules and Proposed Rules from federal agencies and organizations. It is a full text file published Monday through Friday and is updated daily at 6 a.m. The Unified Agenda is published semi-annually as part of the Federal Register and lists all regulatory activity planned by federal agencies for the next 12 months.
  • The Code of Federal Regulation is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the Executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government. The CFR is divided into 50 titles and is being added incrementally to GPO Access throughout calendar years 1996 and 1997.
  • The Congressional Record provides the official record of the proceedings and debates of the United States Congress. It is published daily when Congress is in session.
  • The United States Government Manual offers a brief overview of a each federal agency. The 1996/97 edition is available full text.
  • New Electronic Titles (NET) is a current awareness service providing links to electronic government publications for the past 90 days.
  • Federal Resources Organized by Topic provides subject access to electronic government publications. This database is organized by the same subject headings that have been used to produce the print Subject Bibliographies published by GPO.
