Periodical Databases
This page lists only a few databases available to the GW community. For a more complete list, go to ALADIN and select "Article and Other Databases.
- ALADIN
- ALADIN (Access to Library and Database Information Network) is the electronic library system for the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) and provides access to a wide variety of periodical databases, full-text articles, and other sources. These sources are available only to students, staff, and faculty at WRLC member institutions. You must enter your Social Security Number in order to access these sources from off-campus.
- LEXIS®-NEXIS® Academic Universe
- Provides full-text of many news, business, legal, and government sources. Publications indexed include newspapers, magazines, trade journals, company annual reports, statutes, regulations, court cases, and much more. Access is available only from the GWU campus.
Major Indexing and Abstracting Services
These databases are open to all users. For GWU users, additional databases are available through Aladin.
- ERIC
- ERIC is the premier index to journal articles and other sources in all areas of education. Searchable by a "fill-in-the-blanks" form. Includes citations and abstracts. This site provides coverage from 1989 to present.
- Population Index on the Web
- Population Index is published quarterly by the Office of Population Research at Princeton University and is the primary reference tool to the world's population literature. Books, journal articles, working papers, and other material on population topics are included in the database, which covers 1986 to present. Search by author, geographic region, or subject or browse by date.
- PubMed
- PubMed provides free access to the entire MEDLINE database from 1966 to present. MEDLINE is a comprehensive index to over 3,000 journals in all areas of biomedicine. Abstracts are provided for most articles.
Popular MagazinesThese sources provide access to popular magazines and are open to all users.
- Pathfinder
- Allows you to search the full-text of articles from many popular magazines (Time, People, Life, Money, Fortune, National Review, Sports Illustrated, etc.)
- ZDNet
- Search the full-text of articles from many Ziff-Davis computer magazines, including Computer Shopper, PC Magazine, and MacUser.
- Yahoo!: Magazines
- Lists hundreds of periodicals in 40 subject categories. Includes both print and electronic publications, many of which have full-text articles online.

- PubList
- This directory provides basic bibliographic information for over 150,000 journals, magazines, newsletters, and newspapers. Includes links to publications' web pages. Search by title or by subject category.
