Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, and Handbooks

APA Dictionary of Psychology.

Dictionary published by the largest organization nationally and worldwide representing the field of psychology. Appendices include listings of entries for biographies, institutions and organizations, psychotherapy and psychotherapeutic approaches, and psychological tests and instruments.

The Blackwell Encyclopedia of Social Psychology.

Entries cover the major theoretical developments and research methodology in the social psychology.

Comprehensive Clinical Psychology.

Magill's Encyclopedia of social Science: Psychology.

MIT Encyclopedia of Cognitive Sciences.

Addresses the theories and methods associated with the cognitive sciences. Subject matter includes psychology, philosophy, neurosciences, computational intelligence, linguistics and language, culture, cognition, and evolution.

Treatments of Psychiatric Disorders.

Written for clinicians and compiled by the American Psychiatric Association, this work suggests useful approaches to treatment planning for major psychiatric disorders.

Finding Articles

Provides indexing and abstracting of the psychological literature including psychological journal articles, dissertations, technical reports, books, and chapters within books. Provides the most comprehensive coverage of all areas of psychology, both experimental and applied.

Annual Review of Psychology. 1950 - present
Location: ALADIN Research Portal
Provides reviews of research in specialized areas of psychology. Each essay summarizes and discusses the most influential research and clinical, experimental, or psychology literature. Includes extensive reference lists.

MEDLINE
Location: ALADIN Research Portal
Provides indexing and some abstracting of journal articles and other publications within all areas of biomedicine, including the neurosciences, psychopharmacology, psychiatric and physiological intervention, and public health care and social support programs.

ERIC (Education) 1966 - present.
Location: ALADIN Research Portal

ERIC provides indexing and abstracting of articles from education journals and other publications from the field of education including research documents, technical reports, classroom guides, and curricular materials. Provides full text access to most of the ERIC Documents (1996 - present). The entire ERIC document collection is available on microfiche on the third floor of Gelman Library.

Education Abstracts
Location: ALADIN
Provides indexing (1983-present), abstracting (1994-present), and the full text (1995-present for select titles) of journal and magazine articles. Although the main focus of the database is education, subject coverage includes educational and instructional psychology, counseling, and developmental psychology with an emphasis on children and adolescents.

Sociological Abstracts
Location: ALADIN
Provides indexing and abstracting of journals, annual reviews, and research papers within the field of sociology and related disciplines. Although the main focus of the database is sociology, subject coverage includes areas relevant to the field of social psychology, such as the sociology of organizations, social group interaction, family relations, and conflict.
