This guide lists major print and Web-based resources of interest to students and faculty in the George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development, specifically in the Counseling program. To locate books, use the WRLC Libraries Catalog. Search books using "counseling" as a Subject term. Once the list of Subject Headings comes up, click on the 'More Info' button for suggested subject terms or strategies to narrow your search. National Board for Certified Counselors & Affiliates

NBCC is the largest certification service of the counseling profession. The organization provides information about certification/ recertification, examinations, ethics, and news.

Finding Articles

To access databases with a location of "ALADIN", click on the title of the database. To see a list of databases available through ALADIN, go to the ALADIN Home Page; and under Databases by Title on the right side of the screen, choose from the three alphabetical groupings.

ALADIN databases are available for use only by current GW students, staff, and faculty. If you are using this page from off-campus, you will be prompted to enter the barcode number from the back of your GWorld ID card before you can access the database.

Provides both abstracts and full text to over 2,500 journals including counseling, sociology, tests and mental measurements and education. Indexing goes as far back as 1984.

Provides indexing and abstracts on articles and books related to contemporary education issues including adult education, counseling in education, multicultural issues, career development and counseling, as well as developmental psychology.

Excellent coverage of vocational education, achool and educational psychology and counseling. ED documents are located on microfiche on the third floor of Gelman. Health and Psychosocial Instruments

Provides access to information on measurement instruments: questionnaires, rating scales, and tests in health, psychosocial sciences, and counseling.

Provides full text access to the archival volumes of select journals including those in counseling, education, psychology, and sociology.

Mental Measurements Yearbook

Contains descriptive information and critical reviews of new and revised tests covering more than 2,000 commercially available educational, personality, aptitude and achievement tests.

ProQuest Research Library Plus
Location: ALADIN
Provides indexing, abstracting and some full text articles from academic journals and popular magazines. Although subject coverage is general, psychology, education and counseling articles are included.

PsychInfo
Location: ALADIN
Provides abstracts to over 1,300 journals and book chapters in all fields of psychology, counseling, and related fields.

Sociological Abstracts

Abstracts and indexes sociology and related social and behavioral sciences including counseling and psychology.

Social Sciences Citation Index

As part of Web of Science, SSCI abstracts articles from over 1,700 journals from 1992 to the present. This database can also be used to search how many times a particular author or article has been cited by other authors.
