Finding Articles

To access databases with a location of "ALADIN", click on the title of the database. To see a list of databases available through ALADIN, go to the ALADIN Home Page. Under "Databases by Title" on the right side of the screen, choose from the three alphabetical groupings.

ALADIN databases are available for use only by current GW students, staff, and faculty. If you are using this page from off-campus, you will be prompted to enter the barcode number from the back of your GWorld ID card before you can access the database.

Communication & Mass Media Complete
Location: ALADIN
Provides access to articles addressing communication and mass media. This database combines two popular databases in the fields of communication and mass media studies: CommSearch (formerly produced by the National Communication Association (NCA), and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced by Pennsylvania State University).

Communication Abstracts. 1978 - 2004.
Location: REF P 87 .C6
Provides an indexing and abstracting to articles on mass communication research, media studies, and interpersonal communication. Available in print format only.

PsycINFO. 1872 - present.
Location: ALADIN
Provides indexing and abstracting of the psychological literature. Although the main focus is psychology, subject coverage also includes areas relevant to communication, including verbal and non-verbal behavior, social and personal relationships, cross cultural communication, communication theory, communication disorders, interpersonal communication, etc. Published by the American Psychological Association.

ABI/INFORM
Location: ALADIN
Provides indexing and some full text of articles in journals, trade publications and other periodicals. Although the main focus is business, subject coverage also includes areas relevant to communication, such as organizational communication, health communication, verbal communication, etc.

Academic Search Premier
Location: ALADIN
Provdies indexing and some full text to articles in journals and other periodicals. Although the focus general in scope, communication is one of many subjects covered.

ProQuest Research Library Plus
Location: ALADIN
Provides indexing and some full text of journal articles on a variety of topics including the social sciences, humanities, and business. It indexes several journals in communication.

Sociological Abstracts.1973 - present.
Location: ALADIN
Provdies indexing and abstracting of the sociological literature. Although main focus in sociology, subject coverage includes communication as it relates to organizations, small groups, culture, mass media, society, etc.

ERIC (Education) 1966 - present.
Location: ALADIN
Major changes are taking place in the ERIC database. New materials will not be added to ERIC beginning in January 2004. Regular updates are expected to begin again in September 2004. See the ERIC homepage for details.

ERIC provides indexing and abstracting of articles from education journals and other publications from the field of education including research documents, technical reports, classroom guides, and curricular materials. Provides full text access to most of the ERIC Documents (1996 - present). The entire ERIC document collection is available on microfiche on the third floor of Gelman Library.

Arts & Humanities Search (Arts & Humanities Citation Index). 1980 - present.
Location: Location: Can be searched electronically on FirstSearch via ALADIN
Indexes over 1,300 journals in the arts and humanities, including a significant number of key journals in communication.

MLA International Bibliography (Modern Language Association). 1963 - present.
Location: ALADIN
Indexes articles from journals in English and American language and literature. Topics relevant to communication research include language and rhetoric.

Dissertations & Theses Online. 1861 - present
Location: ALADIN
Indexes and abstracts dissertation and master's theses from US and European academic institutions. Coverage begins in 1861. Many dissertations from 1997 - present can be downloaded. Additional information on how to located dissertations is available in the Dissertations Research Guide.

Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts. 1973 - present.
Location: ALADIN
Provides international coverage of language behavior, linguistics, and related fields.

Index to Journals in Communication Studies Through 1990.
Location: Ref P 90 .M37 1992
Frequently referred to as the Matlon Index, this two volume work is useful in locating articles published through 1990. Covers all aspects of communication. Provides the table of contents for 19 journals.
