- Location: REF Q 121 .M3 1997
- Provides concise articles on many electrical engineering prinicples and electronic components. Useful for a quick overview of a general topic. Some articles include a short bibliography.
- Encyclopedia of Physical Science and Technology, 1992.
- Location: REF Q 123 .E497 1992
- Similar to the title above, but features longer articles with extensive bibliographies. Each article starts with a glossary of terms and include charts and diagrams that may be useful in class presentations.
- Alex's Electronic Test Bench.

- Provides a glossary of electronics terminology, definitions, and acronyms as well as links
to resources on a variety of electrical and electronics topics including manufacturers datasheets, soldering, components, and test equipment. An excellent starting point.

To access databases with a location of "ALADIN", click on the title of the database. To see a list of databases available through ALADIN, go to the ALADIN Home Page. Under "Databases by Title" on the right side of the screen, choose from the three alphabetical groupings.

- ACM Digital Library. 1985-Present.
- Location: ALADIN
- Bibliographic information, abstracts, reviews, and the full-text for articles published in ACM periodicals and proceedings since 1985 are available in the library together with works published by affiliated organizations.
- Applied Science and Technology Index. 1983-Present.
- Location: ALADIN
- Unlike INSPEC and Compendex, Applied Science and Technology Index is very selective,
indexing only about 400 of the top English-language journals and proceedings in engineering,
computer science, telecommunications, and other areas. Coverage is from 1983 to present
with monthly updates.
- Compendex Web. 1980-Present.
- Location: ALADIN
- CompendexWeb is the internet version of Engineering Index and covers all areas of
engineering. Articles are indexed and abstracts provided from about 2,600 journals,
conferences, and reports. Coverage is from 1980 to present with weekly updates.
- IEEE/IEE Electronic Library. 1988-Present.
- Location: ALADIN
- IEEE Xplore provides full-text access to IEEE and IEE transactions, journals, magazines and conference proceedings published since 1988 and all current IEEE standards.
- INSPEC. 1969-Present.
- Location: ALADIN
- INSPEC is the premier database for topics in electronics and electrical engineering,
computer science, and physics. Over 3,000 journals and conference proceedings are indexed
and abstracts are provided for most papers. Coverage is from 1969 to present with weekly
updates.
- SIAM E-Journals. Time coverage varies with journal.

- Electronic access to the full content of the journals of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

Laboratories Technical Reports.

- Includes technical reports produced at HP from 1990 to present. Search by keyword or
browse by year. Full-text is available online for some reports; for others, paper copies can be requested.
- IBM Technical Reports.

- The CyberDigest homepage searches all text fields in each technical paper entry.
- Electrical Engineering Circuit

- Contains schematics for circuits arranged in broad categories such as computers, radio,
telephone, etc.
- Electronic Cookbook

- The purpose of the site is to provide a place for electronics enthusiasts to share circuit
ideas with others. Circuits are arranged by general categories, such as audio, digital, ICs, optics, etc. Schematics are provided; some have accompanying notes. Maintained by the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Alberta.
- Encyclopedia of Electronic Circuits, Rudolf Graf and William Sheets, v. 1- , 1985-.
- Location: REF TK 7867 .G66
- This 7-volume set is an essential source for circuit information. Included are schematics for more than 7000 circuits arranged in over 100 basic circuit categories from "Active Antennas" to "Weather-Related Circuits." Circuits are taken from popular and hobbyist magazines, handbooks, textbooks and a few journals and include references to the original source. A good starting point to get ideas on what type of device to build. Keep in mind that this encyclopedia provides only the schematic and part numbers or value for principle components. There is usually not much information given on how the circuit works.
- Essential Circuits Reference Guide, John Markus and Charles Weston, 1988.

- Examples of "classic" circuits, with part numbers and values given for important components.
- International Encyclopedia of Integrated Circuits, 2nd ed., Stan Gibilisco, 1992.
- Location: REF TK 7874 .G5 1992
- Provides key information on a wide variety of ICs. Easier to browse and gives a more complete description of how the chip functions than the IC Master.
- McGraw-Hill Circuit Encyclopedia and Troubleshooting Guide, John D. Lenk, 1993-96.
- Location: REF TK 7867 .L463 1993 v.1-3
- Describes how a wide variety of circuits operate and gives guidelines for how to test and troubleshoot specific types of circuits.
- Chip Directory.
- Location: http://www.xs4all.nl/~ganswijk/chipdir/index.htm
- Search by chip name or browse by functional group. A brief description and pinout
information is provided for each chip. Also includes links to other chip search sites, chip
manufacturers, and other sources of information on chips.
- Data Bookshelf.

- Many component manufacturers provide technical information about their products in
publications called databooks or datasheets. This site provides an extensive
set of direct links to manufacturers databooks. Arranged in alphabetical order by company name. Maintained by the Center for Reliable and High Performance Computing at the University of Illinois.
- EEM Online.

- EEM (Electronic Engineers Master) is a complilation of catalogs of electronic
components, equipment, and services. Search by product type (transformers, integrated circuits, filters, etc.) or by manufacturer. Product information is taken directly from the manufacturer's or supplier's catalog.
- Electronic Components: Selection and Application Guidelines, Victor Meeldijk, 1995.

- IC Master Online.
- Location: REF TK 7874 .I32; http://icmaster.com/
- Comprehensive source for information on nearly 2 million chips. Search by function, type
of device, part number, or manufacturer. Includes references to databook information,
application notes, pinout and packaging information. Access is free, but requires registration for first-time users.
- QuestLink EE Design Center.
- Location: http://www.questlink.com/
- Billed as an "online engineering community," Questlink provides many useful
features. It has separate, searchable databases for integrated circuits, board level products and system sub-assemblies, and discrete components such as diodes, transistors, etc. There are also databases for computer aided design and engineering tools, manufacturers' application
notes, and pertinent Usenet groups. QuestLink provides the WISDOM database, a Web
search engine devoted to electrical engineering sites. Well-designed site and a good starting
point.
- SemiDex Memory Database.
- Location: http://www.semidex.com/home.html
- This database specializes in memory integrated circuits and covers about 100,000 chips
from 60 manufacturers. You can search by keyword, part number, manufacturer, or function.
Includes key specifications for each chip and provides links to manufacturers data sheets when
available. SemiDex doesn't cover as many chips as IC Master, but provides more
information on each chip.
- Stocknet/Electronet.
- Location: http://www.stknet.com/
- Electronet is an electronic parts inventory database that lets you type in the part number to determine which distributor carries a given part and how many are available in-stock. You must know your part number in order to search Electronet. Also maintains links to distributors' Web sites.
- WebLinks to Databooks
and Datasheets.

- Not as comprehensive as the Data Bookshelf, but provides links to Web sites for the
largest component manufacturers.
- Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
- Location: http://www.epri.com/
- EPRI fosters collaborative research and development for more than 700 member utilities in
the United States. This site includes news on research and development and details of various
business groups. Also provided is the full text of past articles from the EPRI Journal
which cover a range of power related topics (e.g.fossil assets management, power applications
for superconductivity, etc.)

- Dictionary of power-related terms, produced by Advance Power, a UK manufacturer of
power supplies and power systems.
- US Energy Information
Administration: Electricity.

- Provides full-text of many publications produced by the Energy Information
Administration. Covers a wide variety of topics including environmental issues, finance, power generation, revenue, etc. A good source for statistical data.
- Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE).
- Location: http://www.ieee.org/
- IEEE is the world's largest technical professional society with more than 320,000 members
worldwide. This site features information on past and upcoming conferences, weekly news from
the world of electrotechnology, and tables of contents and full-text of the feature story from last months IEEE Spectrum magazine. Other features for IEEE members only include IEEE
Bibliographies OnLine, a comprehensive index to periodicals, conferences and standards
published 1994 through the present and OPeRA, which provides full-text of IEEE papers.
- Institution of Electrical Engineers(IEE).
- Location: http://www.iee.org.uk/
- IEE is one of the major professional organizations for electrical engineers. This site
includes information on the work of the society, as well as a catalog of books, conference
proceedings, and tables of contents for journals published by IEE. Visit the Computer Forum to access full-text of more than 50 selected articles from recent IEE journals (updated regularly).
- International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
- Location: http://www.itu.int/
- Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the ITU works with governments and the private
sector to coordinate global telecom networks and services. Information about the work of ITU is available at this site, along with information on its many publications. Current titles include individual Recommendations (standards), Draft ITU-R Recommendations, the Summary of
ITU-R Monitoring Information and the regional and global Telecommunication Indicators.
Publications can be searched online at no cost, but there is a fee to download the full-text.
- Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International
(SEMI).
- Location: http://www.semi.org/
- SEMI is a global trade association that represents the semiconductor and related industries. This site includes information about the society's work, including statistics, standards, research programs, etc. Full-text of the SEMI's magazine, Channel is available and is a good source of news and information about the semiconductor industry.
