Upgrading EndNote to APA 5th Edition
If you have an older version of EndNote, you probably do not have the style filter that will format your bibliography according to the 5th edition of the Publication Manual of the APA. Follow these steps to download the filter and configure it on your computer.
- Open EndNote and select File/Output Styles/Open Style Manager.
- Click on APA Published. Look in the Comments window at the bottom of the screen. You should see the text "This style is based on Publication Manual of the APA, 5th edition." If instead you see the text "This style is based on Publication Manual of the APA 4th edition," then you will need to download the style filter for the 5th edition.
- Go to the EndNote web site (www.endnote.com). Click on Support & Services. Scroll down the page and click on the link "Update to the latest Styles."
- Scroll through the list of styles until you find an entry for "American Psychological Association 5th Edition." Click on the FTP link in the right column.
- A window may open asking you if you want to open the file or save it to your computer. Click on Save.
- The Save As dialog box will open. Browse to find where EndNote is installed on your computer. Save the file to the Styles folder within EndNote. Be sure the file is saved as APA_Published.ens.
- You may see a window that indicates the download is complete. Close this window.
- To apply the APA 5 style, select File/Output Styles/Open Style Manager on the EndNote menu bar. Follow procedures in Step 2 to identify which APA Published entry is for the 5th edition. Click in the check box next to this style. Close the EndNote Styles window.
- Select File/Output Styles. Select APA Published from the menu. This style will now be applied to your library.
