Indexes and Databases

To access databases with a location of "ALADIN", click on the title of the database. To see a list of databases available through ALADIN, go to the ALADIN Home Page. Under "Databases by Title" on the right side of the screen, choose from the three alphabetical groupings.

ALADIN databases are available for use only by current GW students, staff, and faculty. If you are using this page from off-campus, you will be prompted to enter the barcode number from the back of your GWorld ID card before you can access the database.

ABI Inform. 1970-.
Location: ALADIN
Searches can be limited to certain types of articles (e.g. case studies, experimental/theoretical articles). Hundreds of periodicals are covered, but not all that many trade journals. Hence while some information on specific companies, products, and industries can be found through ABI Inform, this is not the best place to go for such information. Abstracts (i.e.,summaries) of articles are included. The full text of most of the articles is available. A thesaurus of subject headings is available online.

Accounting Articles. 1971-1984.
Location: Z 7164 .C81 C78
This index includes abstracts of articles in abrition to citations. The arrangement is by topic. There are author and subject indexes.

Accounting & Tax Database. 1971 -
Location: ALADIN
This is the online version of Accounting & Tax Index (see below). The authoritative literature (e.g. standards) can be searched separately by clicking on more search options and highlighting reference/reports in the publication type box.

Accounting & Tax Index. (formerly Accountants' Index) Quarterly. 1921-2000.
Location: Z 7164 .C81 A5
Consists of one alphabetical sequence of author and subject headings. Journals, articles, books, and essays within books are indexed.

Banking Information Source. 1971 -
Location: ALADIN (Click on Banking Information Source from the list)
Indexes and provides much full text to scholarly journals, trade magazines, and newsletters covering the banking and financial services industry.

Business and Industry. Daily. 1994-
Location: ALADIN
Covers "leading trade magazines, newsletters, the general business press and international business dailies" from different countries and in a number of languages. For all articles there are substantive abstracts in English and the full text is available as well for most of the English language articles. This is a particularly good source for information about companies, industries, and products.

Business International Index. September, 1966-1984, 1986-1990.
Location: HG 4538 .B912
This indexes material appearing in the various serials and research reports published by Business International, which is a private organization specializing in information on international business. This has ceased.

Business Periodicals Index. 1958-1971.
Location: Z 7164 .C81 B983
Indexes by subject over 200 periodicals. There is a separate listing of book reviews at the end. This partially supersedes Industrial Arts Index (see below). It is also available on Periodical Index on ALADIN (see below).

Business Source Premier
Location: ALADIN
This is similar to ABI Inform (see above). It covers many sorts of business periodicals (popular to the scientific) dealing with a wide range of topics. Most of the indexed articles are available full text online. All have abstracts.

Commodity Futures Trading: Bibliography. Annual. 1976-1995
Location: HG 6046 .C45
Includes lists of books, dissertations, etc. There is also a subject index to periodical articles. Published by the Chicago Board of Trade.

Consumers Index to Product Evaluations and Information Sources.Quarterly. 1973-1984.
Location: TX 335 .C676
A good source for which to find articles on the quality and attributes of various products and brands. It is also available as ConsumerIndx on First Search (see above).

Cumulative Index. Annual. 1988-1994.
Location: WRLC Center off-site storage facility Z 7164 .E2 N28
Subject index to the publications of the Conference Board, an independent business research organization.

Economist Intelligence Unit
Location: ALADIN
This indexes various publications of the Economist Intelligence Unit. It deals with business and economic topics in various countries.

Emerald Library 1967 -
Location: ALADIN
This covers over 130 management journals with some full text back to 1989.

Factiva. Daily.
Location: ALADIN
This provides the full text of numerous newspapers, magazines, newswires, trade journals, and transcripts of electronic media.

Finance Literature Index.
Location: HG 173.F47 1994
This lists the tables of contents of each issue of fifty-five journals from the inaugural issue to at least 1992. There is a separate author index.

Human Resources Abstracts (formerly Poverty and Human Resources Abstracts.) 1967-1998.
Location: Z 7164 .P6
Includes both author subject indices to the abstracts.

Industrial Arts Index. 1939-1957.
Location: Z 7913.I7
This index covers both business and technological periodicals. It is partially superseded by Business Periodicals Index (see above).

International Abstracts in Operations Research. Bimonthly. 1961-1964, 1969-2006.
Location: Q 500 .I5
There are author and subject indexes to the abstracts.

JSTOR (Journal Storage)
Location: ALADIN
This provides the full text of scholarly journals, including some business ones going back many years. It does not have subject searching.

Lexis/Nexis Academic Universe. Daily.
Location: ALADIN
This provides full text of articles of a great many newspapers and business and general periodicals. It is particularly good for news items.

Management: A Continuing Bibliography. 1970-1988.
Location: WRLC Center HD28 .M342
The emphases of this source are project management and engineering management.

Operations Research/Management Science. Bi-monthly. 1961-.
Location: PERIODICALS
This provides extensive summaries of selected articles.

PAIS International. 1915 -
Location: ALADIN
This combines the English language and foreign language editions of the Public Affairs Information Service Bulletin (see below). It indexes and abstracts periodical articles, books, and government documents concerning public policy. The abstracts are in English.

Periodical Index. 1983-1993.
Location: ALADIN
This consists of six indexes, to all of which Gelman Library also has paper subscriptions: Business Periodicals Index (from July 1982), General Science Index (from May 1984), Humanities Index (from February 1984), Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature (from January 1983), Social Science Index (from February 1983).

Predicasts F & S Index Europe. 1978-1994.
Location: HF 1040.9 .E8 F14
Covers over 750 business-related periodicals and special reports, and indexes items dealing with Europe. There are three sections: by general subject or industry (arranged numerically by code numbers for the subjects and industries), by country, and by company (these latter two are alphabetical). It is a good source for articles on companies, industries, and products.

Predicasts F & S Index International. 1966-1994.
Location: HG 4503 .F8
Sister publication of the previous item, arranged in precisely the same way. Coverage is of information concerning all the world save Europe and the United States. It is a good source for articles on companies, industries, and products.

Predicasts F & S Index United States. 1967-1994.
Location: HG 4961 .F8
A sister publication of the preceding two items, except that there is no separate country section as coverage is limited to one country, the United States. Indexes over 750 periodicals and special reports. It is a good source for articles on companies, industries, and products.

ProQuest Research Library Plus. Monthly. 1990-.
Location: ALADIN
This multi-subject periodical index includes articles on business. Each article indexed is also abstracted. The full text of some of the articles is available

Location: ALADIN
"Provides access to the books, journals, and statistical databases of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, providing information on member countries' economics, politics, and international affairs. Publications include country studies, forecasting publications, reports, periodicals, and socio-economic databases. Statistical data can be downloaded as Excel files."

Telecommunications Abstracts. 1985-1989.
Location: TK 5101. A1 T352
Has four indices to the abstracts: subject, industry (by standard industrial classification code number), source (e.g. journal), and author.

Topicator. 1983-1992.
Location: P 90.T62
It is a "classified article guide to the advertising/ communications/marketing periodical press."

Utility Information Digest. 1982-1987.
Location: WRLC STORAGE HD 9697 .A1 U84
This contains abstracts of articles on the electric utilities industry. Following the abstracts, there are subject, author, company, and source indexes (the last arranges citations by periodicals in which they appear) to the abstracts.

Wall Street Journal. 1984-
Location: ALADIN

Wall Street Journal Index. Annual. 1958-1984.
Location: HG 1 .W26 (THIRD FLOOR)
Indexes the eastern edition. There is a separate section for corporate news (indexed by company name) and for general news (indexed by subject). Also given at the end are various daily closing Dow Jones averages. The annual cumulation, since 1982, includes a separate section wherein Barron's is indexed by subject. Factiva (see above) covers the Wall Street Journal.

World Bank E-Library
Location: ALADIN
This is "an online, fully cross-searchable portal of over 4,000 World Bank documents. The collection consists of over 1,600 World Bank publications and over 2,400 Policy Research Working Papers...plus each new book and paper as they are published."

Special Issues Indexes

These list regular special issues of periodicals (e.g. Advertising Age's "World's Top 50 Advertising Agencies" issue). All have subject indexes.
