Japanese Language Databases
The following databases are available for use by current GW students, staff, and faculty as well as any patrons in the Gelman Library. If you are using this page from off-campus, you will be prompted to enter the barcode number from the back of your GWorld ID card before you can access the database. Japan Knowledge is one of the largest collections of resources about Japan. It provides access to various reference sources inlcuding Encyclopedia Nipponica, Kodansha Encyclopedia of Japan (Illustrated), English-Japanese dictionaries and full text books.
A database of the largest Japanese dictionary, “Nihon Kokugo Dai-jiten, 2nd ed.” The dictionary consists of 13 volumes, and contains 500,000 subjects as well as 1 million usage examples, which cover from classical Japanese to modern Japanese.
