The Gelman Library System is a vital and dynamic resource for GW's campus community. Through our print and electronic collections and through research and writing instruction provided by our librarians to students across the disciplines, we are leading the way in addressing the changing information needs of a world-class university. Your involvement is a key part of this enterprise. For example, donor support recently enabled us to build two state-of-the-art electronic classrooms at Gelman Library, and a campaign is underway to renovate Gelman's first floor.

As one of the primary academic resources in the capital of the world's most powerful nation, The Gelman Library System serves an additional role that is unique among university libraries. The State Department, the White House, and the World Bank are among the institutions located within blocks of Gelman Library. Numerous agencies and organizations rely on Gelman Library for ready access to both historical and contemporary documents. Support of The Gelman Library System truly is support of the information needs of our nation's capital.

Positioned at the heart of Washington, D.C., Gelman Library has become a gathering place for donors of major collections, who entrust their holdings to Gelman's topnotch Special Collections department. A recent donation by the PNC Financial Services Group of the records of Riggs Bank-known as the Bank of Presidents-is among our many historically significant collections. We are equally proud of our unparalleled Global Resources Center, which houses materials in Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Hebrew, the Slavic languages, and other languages.
