Gelman Library System - Alumni Resources Gateway

First Floor Renovation

If students are the lifeblood of a University, the library is its heart.

On GW's urban campus especially, students yearn for a pleasant oasis in which to study. They need not only the Melvin Gelman Library's huge collection of scholarly works, but also a sanctuary to focus on high-level research and a hub for collaborative projects.

Today's Net Generation students can't imagine life without the Internet, e-mail, instant messaging, cell phones, and other electronic devices. Yet the first floor of Gelman has changed little since the library opened in 1973, despite an evolution in how the more than 5,000 students, faculty, and researchers use knowledge.

The first floor desperately needs to meet the modern requirements of a top-flight university. Students need technology; faculty expect the best.

How you can help
You can play a pivotal role in transforming Gelman into a premier building equipped with the latest in technology and adapted to the study habits of the 21st century student.

The Gelman Library Campaign aims to raise $5 million for this purpose. A gift of any size will help GW meet this goal. There are a number of important naming opportunities available to donors able to make gifts over $15,000.
