Step 3: Find the full text online

There is more than one path to follow to find the full text of an article online. Try them all:

Follow the link in the citation:
If the full text of an article is available in the database that you are using, you will usually find a link to the full text in the citation. Click on it. See example, below:

Follow the SFX or FindIt link
Some articles may be available in full text format in databases other than the one you used for your initial research. SFX is a feature that we use to link between databases. If you see the OpenLink(SFX) or the FindIt button in your citation, click on it. Example:

Here an example of a citation with an OpenLink(SFX) button in it:

After you click on A grey window will open that gives you a link directly to the full text of the article in another database or databases. Click on the little circle to the left of the online link, next to "Full text available via..." That will take you directly to the full text of that article, if it is available in another database. Note the citation at the top of the page.

Check ALADIN's Electronic Journal Title Finder
Use ALADIN's e-Journal Title Finder feature to see if the full text is available online. Go to the ALADIN page and click on e-journal Title Finder, and enter the name of the journal in the search box. If that journal is available full text in any of the databases that we subscribe to, they will appear in the results.

Here is an example of the results of a search for a journal title using the e-journal Title Finder feature. Be aware that ONLY the electronic databases to which GW subscribes are available to you.

To find your article on paper, go on to Step 4
If all else fails, you will have to find the article in paper format. Go to Step 4.
