Many segments of The Gelman Library System have been recognized by donors, some
to honor a loved one, or sometimes as symbols of thanks and appreciation to
a living person who merits a special gift. A variety of naming opportunities
exists to ensure educational excellence, recognizing generous contributions
to the future of student learning and faculty research.
In recognition of your outstanding contributions, The Gelman Library System will
invite you to lectures, exhibits, and exclusive events within the Library,
and your name will be permanently inscribed on plaques and placed on the Wall
of Honor*. Located on the east wall of the main floor of The Gelman Library, it recognizes
and thanks those individuals - including many professors - who have demonstrated
their support of The George Washington University and its libraries by major gifts and leadership in the
Friends of the GW Libraries.
Supporting - Gifts in Kind
In addition to monetary gifts, the Library accepts gifts of appropriate equipment
from manufacturers and Library materials from individual donors. The Library
particularly encourages inquiries from prospective donors concerning contributions
of books and materials of historic interest such as diaries, correspondence,
manuscripts, and photographs. Volunteer opportunities also exist in many areas
of the library.
Memorial Bookplates - Donors can have specially-created bookplates affixed permanently in new Library books in honor or memory of a loved one, a student or a friend.
