The George Washington University School Of Business Earns Bid To National Sport Management Case Competition
Student Team to Vie for NSF Cup at National Sports Forum, Feb. 1-3, 2010
Nov 9, 2009
WASHINGTON—The George Washington University School of Business has been selected to participate in a student case competition at the largest annual gathering of top team and league sports marketing, sales, promotions and event-management executives, the National Sports Forum (NSF) conference. This is the fourth year the NSF has hosted the competition for sports masters and sports M.B.A. program students, and the first time the GW School of Business has been invited to compete. The event will be held in Baltimore, Feb. 1-3, 2010.
“It’s exciting to be selected for this competition,” said Lisa Delpy Neirotti, GW associate professor of tourism and sport management. “The NSF conference is a great opportunity for the School of Business and our students to get some exposure before the leading national sports executives who regularly attend the forum.”
Susan M. Phillips, dean of GW’s School of Business and professor of finance, said, “This is a great honor for the School and a well-deserved recognition of our sport management program as one of the very finest in the nation,” said
Each of the 10 universities that qualify for the 2010 NSF Case Cup Competition will be represented by a four-student team. The teams will have 24 hours to study a sport management case and prepare and deliver a 20-minute presentation to a panel of judges, who may ask up to 10 minutes of follow-up questions. Ms. Neirotti, who will serve as the GW team’s faculty adviser, said that selecting a four-person team from among the school’s many outstanding sport management students would involve some very difficult choices.
Ms. Neirotti’s areas of expertise include sport and event management and marketing; sponsorship; and sport tourism. An Olympics scholar, she has attended 14 consecutive Olympics and has traveled to 58 countries around the world interviewing IOC members and studying the development and organization of the Olympic Movement. Ms. Neirotti is also a member of the Women’s Sport Foundation (WSF) advisory board and is president of the Washington, D.C., chapter of Women in Sports and Events (WISE).
GW's School of Business prepares students for professional management careers. The depth and variety of its academic and professional programs, including five specialized master's programs, provide rich opportunities for students in the school's core Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration and doctoral programs. GW's undergraduate- and graduate-level international business programs rank among the world's best.
