GW's Information Systems and Services Named to "Technology Managers Forum's" Honorable Mention for Best Practices in Information Security
Oct 7, 2009
WASHINGTON—The George Washington University’s Information Systems and Services (ISS) division has been selected as a joint recipient of the Technology Managers Forum’s Honorable Mention for Best Practices in Information Security. GW received the award for a collaborative cyber security response project completed with Georgetown University and American University. Krizi Trivisani, GW chief security officer, will accept the award on GW’s behalf at the Technology Managers Forum’s 16th annual conference to be held Oct. 8, 2009, in New York City.
“This award speaks to the technical expertise and rewarding partnership that The George Washington University, Georgetown University and American University have developed over the years,” said Dave Steinour, GW chief information officer. “GW’s recognition is a testament to the hard work that ISS commits to protecting the University community from online threats and intrusions.”
The Collaborative Cyber Security Response Project provides GW, Georgetown University and American University with a memorandum of understanding for emergency preparedness and response that cuts across all service sectors. The memorandum provides a strategic summary of a range of cyber security incidents that require collaborative efforts and defines the support services, activation plans and lessons learned procedures. “This collaboration ensures that three of the largest institutions in the nation’s capital have the resources and support to share knowledge and continue business operations in the chance of a cyber security breach,” said Ms. Trivisani.
TechForum’s Best Practice Awards program, founded in 1996 by executive director Priscilla Tate, was designed to recognize and promote excellence in the business management of technology. The term “best practices” refers to processes proved to be the most effective means of implementing a project, and which are significant in that they are innovative and can be replicated. The Best Practice Awards program is particularly distinguished by the caliber of its judging panel, which features practicing Fortune 1000 technology managers.
GW’s Information Systems and Services (ISS) division works with students, faculty, staff and departments across the university to provide advanced technology. From Internet and phone connections in offices and residence halls to software that supports admissions, online registration and other aspects of day-to-day business, ISS keeps GW connected.
