Oct 7, 2009
WASHINGTON—George Washington University Executive Vice President and Treasurer Louis Katz today announced the selection of David Steinour to serve as Chief Information Officer following a national search. Mr. Steinour has been serving as the interim CIO after joining GW as the Deputy CIO in February 2008. He brings to the position more than 20 years of higher education IT experience.
“David Steinour’s appointment to Chief Information Officer is a testament to his leadership, track record and strong relationships with key constituencies at GW,” said Lou Katz. “With over 20 years of Higher Education IT experience, he has the knowledge of evolving technology balanced with a great understanding of GW’s needs and culture. He will lead GW’s Information Systems and Services team in the areas of strategic planning, network operations, enterprise resource planning systems, business process management, technology services support, information security and web services. He will be responsible for working closely with the schools and divisions to achieve annual technology goals, set strategic direction and support GW’s growth in research."
Mr. Steinour said, “I look forward to continuing to serve the diverse needs of the GW community. We have a tremendous opportunity to contribute to GW’s long-term goals. In partnership with the leadership team across the University, I am confident that our information technology goals and priorities will support the mission to promote the process of lifelong learning.”
Prior to joining GW, Mr. Steinour spent four years as CIO at Furman University guiding the continuing development of a long-range vision of information technology at the University. Before joining Furman, he worked for Gettysburg College where he focused on supporting the College’s strategic plans and academic programs through technology, rising to Vice Provost of Information Technology. His information technology career began in the armed services with positions in computer operations and programming.
Mr. Steinour earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md. and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland, University College.
