GW Board of Trustees

The George Washington University is governed by a board of trustees responsible for the management, direction and governance of the University. Members of the board play an important role in the oversight of the University’s fiscal, academic and physical plant operations. Trustees also provide leadership in fundraising and participate actively in GW’s strategic initiatives.

The GW Board of Trustees has established a series of standing and special committees that meet during the full meetings of the board and act throughout the year, as necessary. Current standing committees include:

  • Committee on Academic Affairs
  • Committee on Development and Alumni Relations
  • Committee on Finance and Audit
  • Committee on External Affairs
  • Committee on Investments
  • Committee on Medical Center
  • Committee on Student Affairs
  • Committee on Governance, Compensation and Nominations

There also are two special committees, the Committee on GW/VA Campuses and the Committee on Real Estate.

W. Russell Ramsey, B.B.A. '81, serves as chairman of The George Washington University Board of Trustees. President Steven Knapp is an ex-officio member of the board.
