Dr. Diana Burley
Dr. Diana L. Burley is an Associate Professor in the Center for the Study
of Learning and the Executive Leadership Doctoral Program at the
George Washington University. For more than 15 years, Dr. Burley
has worked to deepen public understanding of the social implications
of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) in organizational
settings. Her research interests include: electronic government,
knowledge management, electronic networks, and 21st century IT
workforce challenges. Prior to joining the GW faculty, Dr. Burley
served as a Program Director in the Directorate for Education
and Human Resources at The National Science Foundation (NSF).
At NSF, she managed multi-million dollar grant programs designed
to increase the capacity of the U.S. higher education enterprise
to produce professionals in scientific fields. Based on her work,
she was honored by the Federal Chief Information Officers Council
and the Colloquium on Information Systems Security Education for
her outstanding efforts toward the development of Federal IT workforce.
Dr. Burley holds an M.S. in Management and Public Policy, an M.S. in Organization Science, as well as a Ph.D. in
Organization Science and Information Technology from Carnegie Mellon University. Her academic career includes
faculty appointments at both Syracuse University and Indiana University. She has presented her work at several
national and international conferences, and has more than two-dozen publications that explore the relationship
between ICTs and changes in individual behavior and organizational action. She is a successful grant writer and
has received financial support for her research from several public and private sources; including the National
Science Foundation, the Natural Hazards Center, and the Price Waterhouse Coopers Center for the Business of
Government. Dr. Burley works and consults with a wide array of public, private, and nonprofit agencies to inform
management and public policy, and to advance understanding of how new technologies impact organizations and
society.
