This series of workshops are intended for those wanting to get their feet wet or brush up on their skills in production and post production. Offerings for this fall are in Beginners Production and Beginners Final Cut Pro Editing (see below.)
Note: Filmmaking is an intense process, if you really want to become a filmmaker, please consider the 6 month Institute instead.
It is here that you learn about the foundation of "story" and experience filmmaking first hand.
Beginners Final Cut Pro Editing
Instructor: Jason Osder
This beginning level course teaches basic features of Final Cut Pro. Students will learn set up, capturing video and audio, editing techniques and output. This course is designed for those new to Final Cut Pro editing software or those switching from other platforms. Students will learn a wide range of techniques and concepts.
Day 1

Theory of editing, a definition of terms, Final Cut Pro in context.
10am – Noon
The Final Cut Pro Interface
Introduction to the editing bay, learning to drive the system, the graphical user interface, Capturing footage.
Noon-1pm Break for Lunch

The Assembly Edit
Marking and editing footage, adjusting it on the timeline. Introduction to trimming.
3pm – 5:00 pm

Color Corection & Finishing in Final Cut Studio
Instructor: Robbie Carman
Designed for the student who has a strong grasp of editing and postproduction, this intermediate to advanced level course covers the final stage of postproduction in Final Cut Studio: Finishing. Students will explore color correction and grading in Final Cut Pro and Color, Audio Mixing and restorative techniques in Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack Pro and Motion graphics finishing techniques in Final Cut Pro and Motion. Additionally students will learn techniques for final output for broadcast masters and DVD/web output.

Beginner's Production
Instructor: Kris Holodak
In one weekend, you will get a hands-on experience and learn the overall process of production. This is a beginning cinematography class featuring all aspects of production including camera, lights and sound. Students will have hands-on access to Sony DSR 250 cameras. Students will produce and review a finished project at the end of the weekend.

Pre production assessment and techniques. What to bring and not to bring to a shoot

Introduction to various types of formats, cameras, lights and sound.

Setting up the interview and how to cover cinema verite b-roll effectively.
4pm – 6:00 pm Production Assignment

In teams, each group will go on assignment to producer a short story on camera.

4pm – 6pm Project Review
Discussions focusing on effective ways to overcome shortcomings and challenges of shooting. Forré into post- production fixes.
