Funding Database Instructions
The funding database is set up with several fields of information: the name, address,
telephone/fax numbers and contact person of the organization; the fields of interest of the grantmaker
(for example, "human rights" or "civil rights"); the geographic area the grantmaker focuses on (for
example, only gives in California); the purpose and general activities of the organization; what kind of
support the grantmaker offers; a representative selection of funds granted in the past few years, any
limitations imposed by the grantmaker; and information about the application process, if any.
In order to search this database:
You may search the database using a keyword describing the criteria you would like the grant to
meet. For example, you may be looking for an organization that funds projects in California. In that
case, enter the word "California" in the search area and click the "Search" button. NOTE: The search
engine currently searches for the keyword in four areas of the record: Fields of Interest, Geographical
Interest, Types of Support and Grant Limits. The search will return all records where the word
"California" appears in any of these areas. You should make your keyword as specific as possible. We
are working on a modification which will allow you to choose which field to search.
Entering no search criteria and hitting the "Search" button will return the entire list.
This database is accurate as of the date of uploading. You should read all information and follow
any links provided to be sure application and contact information has not changed. Please notify us of
any dead links or inaccurate information you find so we can update our database and keep it current.
If a record's Grant Limits field indicates that no grants are made to individuals, the Salmanowitz
Program may be able to assist you with the application process. Please contact Nina Seavey for more
information.
