"Down and Dirty" Workshop Series

The Documentary Center is committed to encouraging and promoting the work of established and emerging filmmakers. We are engaged in two central community-based efforts that are the focal points of this commitment:
SILVERDOCS: The AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival
Nina Gilden Seavey, The Director of the Documentary Center, is the Executive Producer of SILVERDOCS. Housed at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, MD, SILVERDOCS is the result of a unique collaboration between the American FIlm Institute and the Discovery Channel. Attracting films and independent filmmakers from over 70 countries in its 2004 edition, SILVERDOCS has become the premiere documentary festival in the US.

During the 2004 festival, The Documentary Center teamed with the SILVERDOCS International Documentary Conference to host "Shaking the Money Tree: How to get your funding for your film," a three hour workshop with famed author Morrie Warshawski.

The Documentary Center and SILVERDOCS will continue to collaborate on important informational sessions and screenings during the upcoming 2005 festival.

DOCS-In-PROGRESS:
The Documentary Center has become the home for Washington-based "Docs-in-Progress." This bi-monthly screening series founded by independent filmmakers Erica Ginsburg and Adele Schmidt is intended to give Washington area documentary-makers a forum in which to workshop their films and share ideas and information to support future film initiatives.

Screenings are held in the Jack Morton Auditorium on the Lobby Level every other month throughout the year.
