- Founded in 1989 in conjunction with the formation of The George Washington University's Executive Leadership Doctoral Program
- Focused on international partnerships for cross-disciplinary research on learning in the field of Human and Organizational
Studies
- Consulting arm of the University's Executive Leadership Program,
providing global private sector, not-for-profit and government
consulting contracts
From Singapore to Hungary, Chile to China, the Center for the Study of Learning
(CSL) is an international research center devoted to issues of
human and organizational learning.
Over the last 18 years, CSL has consulted with organizations from different industries in areas that impact
the organizations' performance, learning and effectiveness. For example, CSL led
an effort that entailed competency diagnosis, management development, and process implementation activities at a large Healthcare organization.
The academic foundation of CSL allows it to pursue research initiatives in a broad spectrum of organizational issues. CSL was awarded a five-year subcontract to evaluate the effectiveness of a federally funded agency. These projects are led by faculty subject matter experts and staffed by graduate students (Doctoral and Masters) who are interested in the specific research or consulting areas.
CSL benefits from its affiliation with the George Washington
University, located at the nation's capital in Washington, D.C.
Access to world leaders, business trend setters and the most influential
thinkers of the day helps shape a relevant research agenda with
implications for the world's greatest organizational issues and
challenges.
Partnering with scholars around the globe as well as across the USA, the purpose of CSL is to improve practice and theory in each of the following areas:
- reorganizing organizational systems
- learning in organizations and in small groups
- leading and managing organizational change
- organizational culture and mental models
- organizational structure and its impact on learning
- strategy as a knowledge creation mechanism
To accomplish this, CSL employs a world-class team of research
faculty noted for their experience
in the private, public and non-profit sectors. They also are known
in their fields for their exemplary academic accomplishments.
CSL faculty promote an active slate of activities which includes
securing grants, sponsoring conferences, consulting, professional
development and alumni networking. All of these activities are
filtered through an ambitious research agenda
which, in the end, is designed to provide a body of knowledge
that will enhance the study of learning.
